Let me rephrase my question, he is favoring the lower part of the leg not putting alot of pressure on his paw?

when I take his other foot and bring it in towards the inner part of his leg he does not have a problem, but when I do the same to the one he is favoring he is not as willing, it seems there is a little swelling when comparing it to the other leg, I have given him some antiimflammatory medicine and he is now resting and keeping the pressure off, he tends to limp more w/more movement aka walking around etc. I am just wondering if rest will do the trick. We believe this happened due to him taking the stair too fast and tripping or slipping.
