What is a good synonym for "honest"?

I am writing an essay and I keep using the word honest... I need a different word or else I'll get points off. I've already used truthful, and when I try to use a thesaurus, I get words like candid. Candid people are honest, but candid has a slightly negative connotation. Please help!!
